And new dishes by Jurg Lanzrein and salt shakers by Gordon Czop. Barbara Hanson's pillows are a great decorating touch.

Pinch Pots by Andrew Rouse
Born, raised and educated in the UK, Andrew obtained a BA Honors Degree in Three Dimensional Design, specializing in furniture. He went on to create an original furniture line which was represented in showrooms in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and Miami, and received national and international press.
With these hand-crafted pots, Andrew explores a new avenue of expression. Intended to be held as well as viewed, they are worked to a precise balance without losing the natural cradle of the human hand. This exacting process results in a highly-controlled and exceptionally thin form, while literally revealing the artist’s imprint.
Glazes are used in two distinct ways: As an accent, as well as feature. Some pots just have a rim of color, whereas in others the color is used more boldly, coating the entire internal surface, creating contrast with the black unglazed exterior.

Artist Reception October 23, 4 - 7pm
Talk about Porcelain Painting at 5pm

Artist Reception October 23, 2010 ..with our artist talk about porcelain painting - fascinating description of the process that produces simply beautiful work - her ingredible detailed painting - beautiful colors and great imagination. Tiles and many scuoptured pieces.

Cats with Gold Background
At the Artist Reception on October 23, Paola will be giving a talk about Porcelain Painting – what it is, the process and what draws her to this medium. She paints porcelain and Limoges pieces with overglaze colors and uses European close medium, lusters and precious metals such as gold, silver and platinum. Once painted, each piece requires to be fired around 1400-1450 F degrees to make the colors permanent on the china surface. Many pieces need to be fired multiple times, depending on the motif and on the variety of the material used.

Wondering Crane
“Painting on porcelain has always been fascinating for me. The distinct qualities of porcelain, the capacity of transmitting light, the brilliant surface for colors and patterns, the three-dimensional capability have made this medium intriguing and demanding.” says Paola. It is like combining the challenges of painting on canvas and modeling a sculpture where combinations of styles transform ones’ perceptions of a piece of porcelain. The transparency of the porcelain contributes to the elegance of the finished work of art.
Paola who resides in the Hudson Valley, was born in Italy and studies every year in Switzerland, the home of the European skill of porcelain painting.

"Preserve Us" - Anthony Volpe
Demonstration and Closing Party - October 2, 3 - 6pm
All the drawings are done with colored pencil - and so many people have been amazed and have asked about his technique, that Tony has graciously agreed to do a demonstration on Saturday October 2, 3 - 6pm.

You Cast a Long Shadow Budy - 24 x 30
RiverWinds Gallery at 172 Main Street in Beacon, New York presents “Preserve Us” – paintings by Anthony Volpe. It’s harvest time and through the magic of colored pencils, lemons, tomatoes, and pears come alive in sensuous forms with a dash of whimsy. The artistic flair of Anthony Volpe leaves us smiling and wondering. An artists' reception was held at RiverWinds Gallery on Beacon's Second Saturday September 11, 5 - 8 p.m. and the show will run through October 4.

Girasole - 16 x 20
"When one is involved in the process of creating, the literal subject matter of the piece seems to disappear into abstract forms, lines and relationships. The artist becomes intrigued by linear, spatial and color affiliations, the play of light and textural contrasts. The literal is left behind as one becomes absorbed in the process of creating. It is not the picture of an apple or pear but the recording of light, shadow and texture. One is sometimes jolted when the literal is expressed."

Plump Summer Fig - 20 x 16
"Many of my drawings have to do with the sensuous forms found in nature; the visceral, vivid colors and textures and the effect light has on them. Travel, outdoor farmers' markets and early 19th century botanicals poke at me and inspire. Humor and just plain whimsy have a place on the page as well.”

Chatting Lemons - 24 x 30
“My three dimensional work employs both humor and pathos. Some pieces are done solely for the joy of a smile. At other times, I use humor to attract the viewer so I can tell my story and articulate my reaction to the world and its social and cultural injustices. When viewed casually, there may be an initial humorous response, but there is always a deeper emotion beneath for those who seek it. Contemplation of the piece by the viewer exposes its true intent.”

Anthony Volpe is a visual artist working primarily in pencil. Tony lives in the Lower Hudson Valley where he pursues his art full time. He holds a BS and MS in Art Education with postgraduate work at NYU, the Palazzo Grazzi and Segno Graphico in Venice and art history studies in Florence and Urbino. As contributing editor to The Magazine Cucina Italiana, his botanical drawings were featured in site-specific regional articles of Italy. His work has been exhibited in several one man and group shows both here and in Italy and is in collections in the US, Italy and the UK. Several nationally known celebrity chefs and restaurateurs, Lidia Bastianich, Jacques Pepin among others, collect his work as well. His work was recently seen at the Dorsky Museum in New Paltz, NY.

The Horizon Line - new Works by Ellen Lewis

August 14 - September 6, 2010
Artist Reception: Saturday August 14, 4 - 7pm
Gallery Hours: Wed - Monday 12 - 6pm, Second Saturday 12 - 9pm
www.RiverWindsGallery.com
RiverWinds Gallery at 172 Main Street in Beacon, New York presents “The Horizon Line” - new works by Ellen Lewis. Her vibrant use of color creates textured landscapes and organic textures, capturing a sense of the unknown and provoking the imagination. An artists' reception will be held at RiverWinds Gallery on Beacon's Second Saturday August 14, 4 - 7 p.m. and the show will run through September 6.

Since Ellen's first gallery show only six years ago her paintings have evolved with her. This show envelops her talents as a carpenter and artist as the paintings are mounted on wood boxes. “This show is very special for me because I built everything from scratch. Once I started building I was unsure about where it was going. I enjoyed riding the journey to the unknown.” says Lewis.

The artist's creative interest toward painting was triggered by a family tragedy. “In 2005, I had a gut feeling and bought a canvas and started painting despite the fact that I hadn't created a work on canvas ever before,” says the artist. “Soon after that my mother, the biggest cheerleader for my creative pursuits, entered the worst of her battle with cancer. I was able to give her the painting she had always encouraged me to create. Painting helps me honor that connection to my mother, but recently it has also become expression of solitude and joy. That may be reflected in the brighter colors and fiery nature of some of my landscapes.”

Born in Queens, NY, Ellen now resides in Sandy Springs, GA and spends approximately four months a year in her hometown Floral Park, NY and in a rustic family cabin in Harriman State Park, NY. In 2001, she founded her freelance business as a commercial and residential color consultant, muralist, and faux finish specialist. In addition to RiverWinds Gallery, she is also in a well-known and respected Georgia gallery. She is also being sold worldwide to corporate and private establishments by a renowned fine art publishing company. Lewis's works are in private and commercial collections nationally and including private commissions.

RiverWinds Gallery opened its door in July 2003 and has showcased and supported Hudson Valley Artists, and provided outstanding fine art and unique gifts for customers. It features more than 35 of the finest Hudson Valley artists. There are traditional fine art and contemporary crafts including ceramics, pottery, cards, paintings, photography, jewelry, apparel, and home decor.

Gallery hours are Wednesday - Monday 12 - 6pm and 9pm on Second Saturday.
Directions: Route 84 exit 11, take Route 9D South, turn left at Main Street. The Gallery is on the left, a block and half East on Main Street. For further information: RiverWinds Gallery, 172 Main St, Beacon, NY 12582 845-838-2880

July 10 - August 9: RiverWinds 7th Anniversary and "Celebrating Summer" - New Works by Linda T. Hubbard
RiverWinds Gallery at 172 Main Street in Beacon presents “Celebrating Summer” featuring photographs by Linda T. Hubbard. The show is a collection of new works and images never shown before that demonstrate how light showcases the extraordinary and the ordinary parts of life and the world we live in. The opening reception is July 10, 2010, (RiverWinds' 7th Anniversary and Beacon Second Saturday) 5 - 8 pm. The show will run until August 9, 2010.

"Sometimes we travel all over the world to capture an image - and sometimes they are in our own backyard. This show is a combination of both....what I love....flowers, grasses, water, boats, benches and umbrellas. The collages are new - never done before but it reminds us that when we look at something there is more around us." The canvas prints are also new - the printing on the canvas done by Robert Rodriguez, Jr - who did a fabulous job.

Nantucket Flowers - 20 x 30 Canvas Print
“Last year when I fell on ice - smashed my face, broke both wrists and damaged my knees -- I could not hold anything or walk. It was a long recovery, but the toughest part was not being able to pick up a camera and wander through the landscape to see and capture life. But now I am seeing through my lens again and loving it.” Says Hubbard.

Grasses - 20 x 30 Canvas Print
Through her camera, Linda sees a different world - one that celebrates life and how light makes the ordinary beautiful and how humans interact with nature's beauty. She lives in and loves the scenic Hudson Valley - river, mountains, and fields. Ordinary grass, flowers, and the river's edge as light infuses them can be breathtaking. In addition, her travel photography throughout New England, Australia and England captures both the unique scenery and ordinary moments of beauty. “My family has long endured the pause for the camera - my record of life, birthdays, weddings, sunsets or the first ride on the school bus. Mom has been there with her camera…embarrassing them all and delaying dinner - but recording those special times in one's life. Life can be very frantic at times, pausing to capture it and the world around us….priceless."

Water - 20 x 30 Canvas Print
In addition to her photography, Linda is also an arts advocate with the Beacon Arts Community Association (BACA) www.beaconarts.org, Art Along the Hudson (AAH) www.artalongthehudson.com, Mill Street Loft (MSL) www.millstreetloft.org and the Dutchess County Tourism www.dutchesstourism.com. Last year she received a special citation award from the Dutchess County Arts Council.
Special for this show, Linda created 4 large collection of images from her travels through England, Canada, Australia and the New England coast. Each frame is 30 x 30 inches and the individual images are 7 x 7 inches.

Garden Benches - 30 x 30

Summer Umbrellas - 30 x 30

Boats - 30 x 30

The Old Wood Boat - 30 x 30
Also special for this show - there are 9 collages of photographs. When you look through the lens and focus on something - then think about what is around you....

June 7 - July 5
Robert Louis Ferrucci - New Directions
Artist Reception June 12 5 - 8pm
Beacon Second Saturday - Galleries open til 9pm

Lagoon by Robert Ferrucci - 24" x 48"
Riverwinds gallery at 172 Main Street in Beacon presents Robert Ferrucci's New Directions. The new work can best be described as Abstract Expressionism. The paintings are filled with emotion, colors that range from muted to bright full and splashing. The opening reception for the show is June 12, 2010, (2nd Saturday) 5 - 8 pm. The show will run through July 5, 2010.

Puzzle by Robert Ferrucci - 24" x 30"
Robert Ferrucci is always searching always looking for a better way. He has grown in the world of art because he has little fear of working with new and different ideas. Over the years his subjects have changed the use of techniques and the pallet has changed and now his new work is the boldest effort ever. He puts part of himself in his painting as influenced by 50 years of formal education, a lifetime of painting experience and experimentation. He has studied at the New York City Art Student’s League and Pan American Art School in Manhattan. Wile working in the graphic art and publishing industry he also painted for galleries and private commissions. Bob later studied with Gilbert Stone, a prominent illustrator and professor at the School of Visual Arts NYC. His paintings are in many important collections and he has received numerous awards.

Tidal by Robert Ferrucci - 24" x 48"
“I may never stop painting all the styles that I have worked on before but will always look for something new. I believe it has a lot to do with what I read and what I study in life that brings me to a new place. It happens to come out in my art and is a true expression of myself and how it all looks to me now. A spiritual path for some people is a tell all thing. For me my growth is a little more private. But learning about myself and changing my beliefs because of growth and maturity has helped me to see “how important is it” and that knowledge makes it easier to take on your own challenges.”
The new work can best be described as Abstract Expressionism. The paintings are filled with emotion, colors that range from muted to bright full and splashing. Most of the work is mixed media with the use of acrylic, oil pastel, tissue and layers and layers of tinting. The paintings are in part done flat to give them time to dry without dripping but much of the work is on the easel helping to bring out areas and push things in a distant soft space with lots of brush work to define areas and shapes.

Rain Forrest by Robert Ferrucci - 40" x 30"
Bob’s early floral work, his stylized barns and love for the farms and fields will never change but his intensity about his new abstract work is very strong. He sees it from a spiritual personal growth perspective. His effort is expanding reaching out driving the new forces onto canvas. He believes his path is for a Higher Ideal, be still, be mindful, be grateful.

"Trees/Drawings" by Theresa Gooby
March 13 - April 5, 2010
Artist Reception March 13, 5 - 8pm

Yellow Bush - Mixed Media 7' x 7"
Riverwinds gallery at 172 Main Street in Beacon presents our Beacon artist Theresay Gooby. Her "Drawings of Trees" honor the tree as a simple inspiration for a world of art. Her mixed media drawings on wood of the trees and their birds are whimsical and delightful. The opening reception for the show is March 13, 2010, (2nd Saturday) 5 - 8 pm. The show will run through April 5, 2010.
Theresa's first New York winter was a harsh shock to her, a person who has spent most of her life living on the west coast. It was cold, dreary and ugly compared to San Francisco. "As I walked through the gray streets of New York in the dregs of winter every day I tried to find something visually interesting to keep me going. I noticed that the bare winter trees appeared to be like living drawings. They are simple colorless line drawings that exist in a three dimensional space. Each one followed the same system of nature but each one was uniquely different. One branch splits off into another into another. I began to study the trees like artworks. I would draw trees according to the system I observed; studying the trees as drawings became a calming exercise. I looked forward to finding new trees to examine on my daily walks."

Blue/White 8" x 11"
Now she makes photographs of these living drawings, then turns them into transparencies using an artists’ material. Once a tree has been turned into a transparency, she adheres it to a wooden block that has been painted. When they are done she lets them sit together on the floor of her studio and ruminates on them until two or sometimes three will seem to belong together. Many of the choices she makes with color and size of each piece involves some random chance. Wood is either found or donated to her by a woodworker from their scrap pile. "I aim to choose colors that reflect how I feel about the seasons but sometimes I mix colors that I cannot replicate no matter how hard I try."
"I call these “Drawings of Trees” because I am honoring the tree as a simple inspiration for a world of art. One of the first things we draw with crayons is a tree. It is the beginning of art. Nature is often the entry to understanding art."

Theresa Gooby was born and raised in California and now lives in Beacon, NY. She has a BFA in Studio Art from the University of New Mexico and an MFA in New Genres from the San Francisco Art Institute. Her work explores the intersection of the man made world and the natural world. Her work has been featured in shows at the Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art, the Walter & McBean Galleries in San Francisco, Temporary Autonomous Museum of San Francisco, the Amos Eno Gallery on Brooklyn NY, on site in Marfa TX and in Beacon NY. She has also organized the first Beacon Open Studios for the Beacon Arts Community Association (BACA) which included over 50 Beacon artists and is now a member of the BACA Board.

“What is Love?”
When we are little we love our Mom, our Dad, our caretakers…they feed, clothe and shelter us…. they teach us about life, about love…. So our first memory of love is about our them….
As we grow up, love adds another layer – that of sharing one’s life joys…the little simple pleasures of life…a tasty lunch, a nap in the warm sun, or dressing up and going for a walk.
And yet another layer gets added...those very special occasions such as sharing our wedding day kiss, cuddling our darling baby.
And along the way, we become the caretakers, the protectors – sheltering those we love from harm’s way or solving problems for those we love.
What does love means to you… ?

Come see the collection of animal photographs by Linda T. Hubbard and wedding photographs by Mary Ann Glass - they each have captured those special moments of Love |

“These are just a sampling of the artists, so do come and experience the many talents of our students” says Claudine Farley-Davis, Beacon High School Art Department.
