Spirit Dancing - Mixed Media by Annette Jaret
May 14 - June 5, 2016
Artist Reception - May 14, 2016 5 - 8pm
Jaret is a photographer, painter, and collagist. She is enamored of trees, their size, texture, and inherent poetry. She draws her artistic inspiration from the many incarnations they go through across the seasons, how they stand in powerful individuality, or merge together supple and strong. This series began with her photographs, which were then cut, pasted, and lacquered in ways that allowed her to achieve textures and nuances impossible for photography alone.
In speaking of her work Ms. Jaret notes: “From earth to earth. We take down trees to make paper and I repurpose discarded paper to create trees. Unlike my classical training, this is a visceral experience. The result is an artistic journey I call “Spirit Dancing”. It comes from a place of freedom and exploration dictated by the papers used. These reconstituted papers create exotic and unique patterns and textures. The entire process is both physical and spiritual.”
Ms. Jaret’s work will be on display at Riverwinds Gallery through June 5, 2016.
